With respect to the CAPS edition of the Pythagoras Grd. 10 study guide, we have decided not to destroy (pulp) the existing NCS study guide. There are only limited changes and comprise the omission of one topic and the addition of a few small topics. Furthermore the only changes are to the sequence of the topics. To accommodate these changes our authors have prepared a 16 page addendum in which all the changes have been set out clearly. Additional exercises have been prepared to thoroughly assess the new topics. This addendum will be distributed along with the existing study guide.

Pythagoras Grd. 10 gives you the opportunity to do many extra exercises. By doing extra work, your understanding and skills will improve immensely.It is, however, important to note that the book is meant to be supplementaryto your class work and textbook. The extra exercises will, however, help you to revise and prepare well for tests and examinations.

Fourlearning outcomes of the grade 10 syllabus are covered in the book. These learning outcomes (LO) are:

LO 1: Number and Number Relationships

LO 2: Functions and Algebra

LO 3: Space, Shape and Measurement

LO 4: Data handling and Probability

The first half of the book covers the 4 learning outcomes in different modules. Every module consists of:

A “Remember” part. This gives a summary of the most important theory and facts regarding the specific topic as well as a few worked examples.

Exercise A: These exercises contain easier problems concerning basic knowledge.

Exercise B: These exercises contain more difficult / challenging problems.

Test. Every module concludes with a test. This gives you a good opportunity to test yourself. The mark allocation is given for each question in the test.

The second half of the book contains complete worked solutions (answers) to every problem.

Wat die CAPS weergawe van die Wiskunde Gr. 10 studiegids betref, het ons besluit om nie die bestaande NKV-studiegids te verpulp nie. Die veranderinge is betreklik min en behels slegs die weglating van een onderwerp en die byvoeginge van enkele klein onderwerpe. Verder is die volgorde van die onderwerpe verander. Om hierdie veranderinge te akkommodeer, het ons skrywers 'n 16 bladsye addendum voorberei waarin die veranderinge duidelik uiteengesit word. Addisionele oefening is opgestel om die nuwe onderwerpe deeglik te assesseer. Hierdie addendum sal saam met die bestaande studiegids versprei word.

Pythagoras Gr. 10 gee vir jou die geleentheid om baie ekstra oefening te kry en so jou begrip en vaardighede baie te verbeter. Dit is egter belangrik om te besef dat die boek is bedoel om aanvullend tot jou klaswerk en handboek te wees. Die ekstra oefeninge help jou egter om hersiening te doen en goed voor te berei vir toetse en eksamens.

Vier leeruitkomste van die graad 10 leerplan word in die boek gedek. Die leeruitkomste (LU) is soos volg:

LU 1:Getalle en Getalverwantskappe

LU 2:Funksies en Algebra

LU 3:Ruimte, Vorm en Meting

LU 4:Datahantering en Waarskynlikheid

Die eerste helfte van die boek dek die 4 leeruitkomste in verskillende modules. Elke module bestaan uit:

‘n “Onthou” gedeelte. Dit gee ‘n oorsig van die vernaamste teorie en feite omtrent die onderwerp asook ‘n paar uitgewerkte voorbeelde.

Oefening A.Die oefening bestaan uit eenvoudiger problemeoor basiese kennis.

Oefening B: Hierdie oefening bevat meer ingewikkelde probleme.

Toets: Elke module sluit met ‘n toets af. Dit is ‘n goeie geleentheid om jouself te toets. Die puntetoekenning word vir elke vraag in die toets verskaf.

Die tweede helfte van die boek bevat die volledig uitgewerkte oplossings (antwoorde) vir elke probleem.
